My Favorite Bible Verse

Almost every Christian has a favorite Bible verse. There are many popular and well known verses in Scripture. My favorite verse does not fall under that umbrella. In fact, I doubt this is a verse that comes to your mind immediately. It is my favorite verse because of the context and setting we read it in.

My favorite verse is John 6:68...like I said, I doubt it rings a bell with you. The verse says "Simon Peter answered Him (Jesus), Lord to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life."

The reason I love this verse and love how Peter responded is because of the setting. Jesus had just finished some difficult teachings. After hearing some of His teachings, many who had joined the bandwagon of following Jesus decided to turn away from Him. Just a few verses before the Bible says "as a result of this (His teaching) many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore."

Christ poses a very serious question in verse 67...the Bible says "so Jesus said to the twelve, You do not want to go away also, do you?" What a question from the Son of God! It was in the context of this question that Simon Peter once again answers correctly! At times, Peter said the wrong thing, but this was a great moment for Him! "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."

I agree with Peter! There is an ongoing and oncoming persecution against those who follow Christ and His teachings...but where can we go? As a 17 year old boy I made my mind up that I found the One who gives eternal life! Like Peter said, "Lord, to whom shall we go?" I have nowhere to go but wherever Jesus leads me.

LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO? YOU HAVE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE.
