Bible By Brett-I Am With You Always

"I Am With You Always"
Matthew 28:18-20

The Great Commission is one of the most well-known passages of Scripture in the New Testament. It is certainly a clear command from Christ, but I believe it is also a wonderful invitation from Christ. The Lord extends an invitation to any person that would be a Great Commission person; this is an invitation to the Lord's presence in your life. Great Commission people have a promise of God's presence in their life!

If you commit to live a Great Commission life, you will commit to three definite things:

1. Commitment To The Right Person

Jesus is the right person! Verse 18 of the Great Commission says "all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." We know that Jesus has all authority. A person truly committed to Him will grant Him all authority over their own life as well. God makes a promise that He will be with the person who commits to Jesus and recognizes His authority in their own life.

2. Commitment To The Right People

Verse 19 says "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations." A Great Commission person is someone who is committed to reaching all people with the Gospel. There is no place for racism in the heart of a person committed to reaching the world. Any person committed to reaching the world has the promise of God's presence in their life.

3. Commitment To The Right Plan

Verse 19 and 20 says "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, even to the end of the age."

The promise of "I am with you always" comes in the context of being committed to the Great Commission. Jesus does not promise His presence to reside with each individual on earth. Any person who is committed to the right person (Jesus), and committed to reaching the right people (all people), needs to do so by following God's right plan; God promises to be with you as you do it.

  • The right plan involves evangelism. A person cannot become a disciple until they have been evangelized and saved. The right plan involves sharing the Gospel.
  • The right plan involves obedience to His commands. Verse 19 says "baptizing them." Baptism is an important step of obedience in our walk with God.
  • The right plan also involves teaching the entire counsel of God. The Bible is more than just John 3:16. Jesus says in verse 20 "teaching them to observe all that I commanded." God desires that His Word be taught in its fullness. God is with those who teach His Word.
Be committed to the Right Person, the Right People, and the Right Plan and God says you can know that He is with you every step of the way! "I am with you always" is one of the greatest invitations and promises in the Bible!
